EIGHT.39 is a Houston‑area technology company that has been in business since 2015, running five divisions: fleet telematics, security and low‑voltage facility work, managed IT, custom software, and church technology.
EIGHT.39 FLEET is our fleet division and a Samsara‑certified installation partner. We run turnkey telematics and camera deployments for carriers, private fleets, and dealers — designing, installing, aiming, commissioning, and handing off Samsara hardware and adjacent platforms. Programs run from a handful of vehicles to fleet‑wide rollouts across multiple sites and states. It’s the fastest‑growing side of the business, which is why this role exists.

We design and build in‑house — our own software platforms and the hardware, tooling, and processes we deploy in the field — and we run a 100% W‑2 workforce with no subcontractors, so we own quality, scheduling, and brand on every job. Most of all, we’re building the kind of place people actually want to work — and we want this role to help take that even further.
The role
We’re looking for an experienced telematics professional to lead our field operations end to end. You know this industry and this hardware cold — you can step in, run jobs, and be the technical authority in the room. You’ll plan and manage deployments, set and enforce the install standard, build and staff the crews that execute the work, and help shape the culture and standards of a growing field team. This role is equal parts subject‑matter expert, project leader, team builder, and culture‑builder.
The work
What you’ll do
- Own deployments end to endFrom mobilization and staging through installation, aiming, commissioning, QA, and closeout — for programs ranging from a few vehicles to fleet‑wide rollouts across multiple sites and states.
- Be our in‑house subject‑matter expertSamsara Vehicle Gateways, AI dash cams, and AIM4 multicam systems; Doran TPMS; forklift and equipment gateways; cab‑to‑trailer Drop & Connect kits; and adjacent platforms (Geotab, Motive, Netradyne, Lytx) as needed.
- Set and enforce the install standardClean 12V/24V wiring, secure mounting, camera aiming to each customer’s risk‑management spec, and device commissioning with device‑to‑unit / VIN mapping on the Samsara dashboard.
- Build and lead the teamInterview, hire, onboard, train, and schedule W‑2 install technicians and crews — and grow the bench as our pipeline expands.
- Coordinate with customersWork site and terminal points of contact on vehicle availability, scheduling, scope, and go‑live.
- Scope and estimate jobsFrom RFQs and fleet‑roster spreadsheets; verify the bill of materials for each vehicle type; flag missing or conflicting scope before crews mobilize.
- Own field performanceDaily production targets, first‑time‑right quality, rework, and jobsite safety.
- Troubleshoot difficult installs and escalationsAnd interface with Samsara and other manufacturers on hardware, cabling, and RMAs.
- Help us navigate the industryOEM / pre‑delivery and dealer channels, DOT / FMCSA context, and where the telematics market is heading.
- Help build the environmentShape how the field team hires, trains, works, and grows. You won’t just run the playbook; you’ll help write it.
What you bring
Requirements
Required
Non‑negotiable
- 5+ years of hands‑on vehicle telematics, mobile‑electronics, or fleet‑camera installation, including time as a lead or supervisor.
- Mastery of 12V/24V vehicle electrical systems — reads wiring diagrams and routes, terminates, and troubleshoots clean cable runs on light‑, medium‑, and heavy‑duty vehicles and equipment.
- Direct experience installing and commissioning telematics and camera systems — Samsara strongly preferred; Geotab, Motive, Netradyne, or Lytx a plus.
- Proven people leadership: hiring, training, and managing technicians or crews.
- Deployment and project‑management ability across concurrent jobs, schedules, and production targets, with clear status, issue, and risk reporting.
- Strong customer‑facing communication.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and able to pass a background check.
- Based in the Houston, TX area, with occasional travel to job sites as programs require.
- Physically able to perform and inspect installs — lift up to ~50 lbs, work in and under vehicles, and work outdoors in varying conditions.

- Low‑voltage / 12‑volt or automotive‑electronics credentials (MECP, ASE, or manufacturer certifications).
- Experience running multi‑site or multi‑state fleet rollouts.
- Comfort with fleet‑ops software, VIN / asset mapping, and QA workflows.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish).
Compensation & benefits

Pay
$90,000–$105,000
Base, depending on experience.
- Performance bonus tied to deployment throughput, first‑time‑right quality, and on‑time delivery.
